Danish artist and engineer developed a lensless AI camera
Paragraphica project enables AI-powered photography

Engineer Bjørn Karmann created a lensless camera utilising AI for image generation based on specified parameters. The Paragraphica project website allows users to test the technology by connecting to the internet and using the physical device.
Karmann’s innovation aims to provide a broader understanding of the world beyond visual perception, as he states.
For capturing photos, the camera requires input about the shooting location, weather conditions, time of day, and surrounding environment. The device incorporates a physical controller to determine the range in which AI can identify objects for the image.
Another control determines the extent of AI “imagination,” allowing the neural network to deviate from the specified parameters set by the photographer.
Karmann utilised a Raspberry Pi 4 single-board computer, a touch screen, and a 3D printed housing in the creation of the camera.
