Disney Hotstar established new world record for Indian streaming – thanks to cricket
The cricket match drew a simultaneous viewership of 35 million

Disney’s Hotstar streaming service achieved a new world record, amassing a staggering 35 million simultaneous viewers during the highly anticipated India-Pakistan cricket match. This milestone surpassed the previous record set by Viacom18’s JioCinema channel, which drew 32 million viewers to a cricket contest.
Expressing gratitude to cricket fans, Disney+ Hotstar India CEO Sajith Sivanandan acknowledged their role in breaking records and paving the way for future achievements.
In an effort to outperform its rival, Viacom18, Disney’s Hotstar is offering Indian users free streaming of the Cricket World Cup, which is projected to attract more than 50 million concurrent viewers, equivalent to 82% of India’s total annual video users. The tournament spans nearly 50 days.
