Five million users have already created a poster with the Instafest application

The app developer is now working to add more platforms along with the Spotify streaming service

A new app called Instafest will make a festival poster for you based on your Spotify listening habits.

Anshay Saboo’s free web app is intuitive: you join in with your Spotify account – the programme makes a poster based on the artists you’ve mostly listened to. The poster can be modified based on time periods, including the past four, six and all time.

A wide range of poster designs are also available, such as Mojave Dusk, LA Twilight, and Malibu Sunrise. The Instafest app also calculates what it refers to as a ‘Basic Score’ which can make you feel good about the speciality of the music you choose. The lower the score, the more specialised your music festival is.

You can alter the name of the music festival, hide or show your username, and hide or show your Basic Score after the poster has been made.

Saboo said he got the idea for the app while visualising the Coachella lineup, he had imagined how he would’ve arranged the Coachella roster if he had the power to choose artists.

The developer is also offering support for other platforms. On the website, you can use your Last.fm listening history to make a festival poster, and Apple Music support is coming soon. Saboo emphasised that it will take time for more platforms, as not all of them have user friendly APIs like Spotify. He does want to add support for alternative music streaming services like YouTube Music.

In order to make sharing festival lineups among users more fun, Saboo is currently focused on app maintenance and enhancing integration. He is investigating the prospect of establishing a music-based social network that would cater for festival graphics.

Since its debut, Instafest has grown rapidly on social media. More than 5 million people have made an Instafest poster.
