How Artificial Intelligence is threatening British actors
Artists in the UK are concerned about the development of artificial intelligence

Actors in the United Kingdom have begun to recognise that artificial intelligence has the ability to eject them from the stage. Artificial intelligence (AI) is putting actors’ jobs in jeopardy. Equity, the British performing arts union, has launched a campaign called “Stop the AI that steals the show”.
Artists note that AI can use samples of their voices or facial expressions to create content, including deep fakes.
“From automated audiobooks to digital avatars, AI systems are already replacing skilled professional performers, often because they are seen as cheaper and more convenient,” Equity said.
Artists are calling for copyright laws to be changed and adapted to the new digital reality. Otherwise, they believe the world will be threatened with ‘dystopian’ consequences.
Many AI artists, according to the organisation, are underpaid; for example, some content providers frequently utilise the picture or voice of performers without their permission.
