Twitter may have to yield to the long standing pressure from investors

News broke out in the Washington Post that Elon Musk plans to fire as much as 75% of Twitter staff, amounting to approximately 5,600 employees. He had previously said that in the case of an acquisition, he was contemplating some layoffs, but nobody could imagine the real gravity of the situation.

The pressure for Twitter to cut down on its employees isn’t anything particularly new. There has been consistent pressure from investors and similar companies in the field have attempted to take timely measures in the face of the looming economic crisis. While these are all valid factors, people just couldn’t imagine that musk would go as far as to fire two thirds of the company’s staff.

This news rings alarms, however, there are still faint glimmers of hope. Thus far Musk has announced a lot of things, but he hasn’t necessarily delivered on all of them, so maybe this is simply a vicious strategy for increasing the company’s productivity, because experts argue that Twitter wouldn’t be able to operate only with 25% of its staff.

Musk has received countless rebukes over his audacious and often uninformed social media management strategies. Peiter Zatko, Twitter’s former head of security turned whistleblower, noted that in order to improve Twitter, the company requires serious targeted investments and large scale lay-offs aren’t merely counterintuitive – they also seem completely counterproductive.
