Put your ears in the sun, for the solar-powered earbuds are here

The new earbuds will endure a music playback of 32 hours

Urbanista, the Swedish producer of audio products including speakers and headphones, has recently launched its newest product – the solar-powered earbuds.

According to information released by the company, the case holding the earbuds has a built-in solar cell that has the capacity of generating energy for 32 hours of music playback. While they are not out in the market yet, they are planned to become the world’s first solar-powered wireless, active noise-canceling earbuds.

Recently, the company launched its Urbanista Los Angeles model, which are solar-powered ear-to-ear headphones, which the Fast Company ranked in its 2022 World Changing Ideas list.

While some may perceive the move as an empty trick for riding the eco-conscious wave, there may be something more behind it. As wireless earbuds are most often used for physical or outdoor activities, such as jogging, solar-powered earbuds would require least attention from their user to actually charge them.

It needs to be noted that it is only the case that holds solar cells – not the earbuds themselves. The case can charge itself from all sources of light – both outdoors and indoors. While there is no obvious need for a wire, the company has inserted a charging port – just in case.
