Robot in South Korea took over as conductor of national orchestra
Korean Android Robot EveR 6 leads national orchestra for the first time, according to subtitles
In a concert of the national orchestra held in Seoul, South Korea, the android robot EveR 6 made its debut as a conductor.
EveR 6 was partnered with conductor Choi Soo-yeol, who praised the robot’s precise movements. However, the conductor pointed out that the robot lacked the ability to perceive and analyse sound, making it unable to detect and correct mistakes made by the performers.
Developed by the Korea Institute of Industrial Technology, the two-armed EveR 6 conducted three out of the five musical pieces. Conductor Choi Soo-yeol remarked that the concert demonstrated the potential for robots and humans to coexist and complement each other, rather than replacing one another.
In another instance, three dog-like robots created by Boston Dynamics named Basya, Bonnie, and Archie are participating in the NGV Triennial exhibition of contemporary art and design in Melbourne. Under the guidance of artist Agnieszka Pilat, these robotic assistants work alongside humans.
