Saudi Arabia and UAE procure NVIDIA chips to gain an edge in AI race
Across the region, Arab countries are vigorously cultivating their AI ecosystems
Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates have made substantial acquisitions of high-performance chips from NVIDIA, specifically designed for the creation of artificial intelligence systems.
Saudi Arabia, for instance, procured a significant batch of 3,000 Nvidia H100 accelerators, each priced at $40,000. These H100 accelerators, championed by NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang, are hailed as the world’s first computer chips crafted for generative AI.
Saudi Arabia presently offers a conducive environment for the expansion of digital ecosystems, further buoyed by an influx of Chinese developers seeking opportunities in Arab nations due to employment limitations imposed by US sanctions.
Simultaneously, the UAE has also placed orders for several thousand NVIDIA processors, aligning with the nation’s vigorous pursuit of developing its own language model, the open-source Falcon model.
