Sony introduces a programme to rehome its Aibo ERS-1000 robotic companion dogs. The initiative welcomes returns from owners discontinuing their Aibo Cloud Plan subscription.
Aibo, available since 2018 at $2,900, utilises AI to respond to voice commands, offering emotional support akin to real pets, even though it can’t roam outside.
Returned Aibos will be refurbished and placed in settings like medical facilities and nursing homes to provide emotional support. The Aibo Foster Parent Programme begins in Japan this December, with undisclosed maintenance fees for new “adoptive parents.”
Meanwhile, the Chinese firm Unitree unveils the Go2 robotic companion dog, featuring GPT support, agility in stair navigation, load carrying, acrobatics, and a maximum speed of 12.6 km/h to follow users during runs.
