Startup Kittle challenges Canva as an easy-to-use design platform

Kittl’s easy-to-use platform facilitates complex design processes for users

Berlin-based startup Kittl has raised €10.8 million ($11.6 million) in a series A funding round for its design platform, which aims to make it easy for users to turn ideas into graphic products.

The round was led by Left Lane Capital, with participation from Speedinvest and angel investors such as Intercom co-founder Des Traynor, former Bebo CEO Shaan Puri, and product leaders from companies like Calm, Amazon, and Instagram.

Despite Canva’s $26 billion valuation, startups are still identifying opportunities in the ‘easy to use design platform’ market, as many users find professional Adobe tools difficult to use.

Left Lane Capital, a New York-based venture capital firm co-founded by Nicolas Heymann and Tobias Saul, is well-known for investing in companies such as GoStudent, Wayflyer, and Masterworks. Kittl, another company founded by Heymann and Saul, provides browser-based graphic design tools for creating logos, labels, postcards, and other designs.

Founded by Heymann and Saul in 2020 as Heritage Type, the company rebranded after raising €1.6 million in seed funding in October 2021. Heymann has stated that they plan to further develop their AI and machine learning capabilities, in anticipation of future advancements in technology.
