Cumulus Data opened a data hub that caters for zero-carbon and cost-efficient energy

Cumulus Data has announced the opening of the first of its kind campus in the US, which will house both bitcoin mining and cloud computing services.

The direct connection to the power station gives the campus a competitive advantage by eliminating intermediation by traditional utilities.

The CEO, Alex Hernandez, stated that the data centre campus will be able to meet the growing demand for zero-carbon, low-cost, and reliable electricity by data centre customers.

There are two 48 MW shells in the first phase of development, with a total capacity of 475 MW for the campus. Cumulus Data has also identified 18 more energy sites for potential data centres connected to power generation.

In 2021, Talen energy partnered with TeraWulf to develop the Nautilus Cryptomine at the campus, which is expected to provide 50 MW of net mining capacity in Q1 2023. The Susquehanna site has two boiling water reactors with a combined capacity of 2514 MWe.
