Gizmodo Chief says Apple filmed Tetris Effect unauthorised

Dan Ackerman, the editor-in-chief of online publication Gizmodo and author of The Tetris Effect, has initiated legal proceedings against Apple Corporation. As stated by the plaintiff, the production company Apple TV employed his works without obtaining authorisation during the creation of the movie “Tetris,” which is dedicated to the iconic game.

In the lawsuit, Ackerman’s book is characterised as a Cold War thriller with political intrigue that narrates the saga of a legal battle for the game’s commercialisation. The plaintiff contends that the creators of the Apple TV film incorporated numerous specific details and incidents from the book, resulting in a movie that is highly reminiscent of it in nearly all substantial aspects.

According to Ackerman, he forwarded his manuscript to the producers for the purpose of adapting the book into a film. However, Tetris discouraged the filmmakers from pursuing the project and conveyed the threat of legal action against Ackerman. Presently, Ackerman is seeking compensation by way of 6% payment from the $80 million Tetris budget.
