Truss suggests relaxing the immigration rules for foreign workers

Liz Truss attempts to boost the economy and tackle labor shortage by easing entry into the UK

UK’s new Prime Minister Liz Truss recently revealed plans for boosting the country’s economic growth.

The UK’s been undergoing long-term economic stagnation, which in turn has resulted in a large labor shortage, therefore the new PM is experiencing pressure from industry leaders to enable more overseas workers to come to the UK.

This is a reversal of Boris Johnson’s intended immigration policy, thus Truss could face opposition from the government’s brexiteers.

As a result of Brexit-imposed restrictions, farming has faced the largest labor shortages, which have been blown up by the pandemic.

In order to tackle this issue, Liz Truss has proposed increasing the seasonal worker’s scheme introduced in 2019. According to Truss’s new propositions – the six-month limit would be extended and the 40,000 cap would be lifted.
