Twitter co-founder launches decentralised alternative to Twitter

A new competitor to Twitter has emerged in the App Store with a similar design and features

A new microblogging service, Bluesky, has appeared in the App Store. The design and features of the app are very similar to those of Twitter, and Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey is behind the project.

BlueSky posts are limited to 256 characters. Other users’ messages can be reposted, liked and commented on. The app is currently available by invitation only.

The developers emphasise that the main difference between Bluesky and Twitter is decentralisation. The application is developed on the Authenticated Transfer Protocol, which, in particular, allows users to customise their content without relying on algorithm recommendations.

The Bluesky service was originally developed as part of Twitter. However, last year the project spun off into a separate company. Bluesky is now headed by Jack Dorsey.
