Twitter has been blocking users from linking its competitor

The platform has to address yet another claim of censorship

Just a few weeks ago, Twitter appeared to be removing tweets that mock the company’s owner Elon Musk. Now the micro-blogging platform appears to be involved in another censorship scandal.

The latest news reveals that the company has been blocking tweets that include links to Mastodon, Twitter’s biggest competitor. It appears that all of the tweets that have included links to Mastodon have resulted in error messages claiming “we can’t complete this request because this link has been identified by Twitter or our partners as being potentially harmful.”

This comes amidst Mastodon’s main account being blocked on Twitter. This news comes against the backdrop of a row of dubious privacy initiatives passed on by the platform. Previous scandals included the account @ElonJet – a Twitter account that persistently posted the whereabouts of Elon Musk’s private jet. Elon Musk responded by suspending the account and the personal account of the person behind it.

In order to make the issue less about Twitter and more about the wider Twitter community, Elon Musk proposed a new policy that bans people from sharing live locations of another person. Neither Twitter nor Mastodon have given their commentaries on the situation.
