YouTube opted to reassess its policies in preparation for upcoming 2024 election
The platform will retain misinformation videos about the 2020 presidential election and not remove them

YouTube, the popular video hosting platform, will cease its practice of removing content containing false claims regarding fraud in the 2020 US presidential election.
Google, the owner of YouTube, acknowledges that removing such false information helps curb misinformation but also restricts the space for political discourse.
In a statement, YouTube announced that, considering the ongoing 2024 election campaigns, they will no longer remove content that spreads falsehoods about previous US presidential elections. They emphasised the need to reevaluate the consequences of their content restriction policy.
However, YouTube will continue to enforce rules that prohibit the dissemination of misleading content related to voting schedules, locations, and participation requirements.
